CZ Scorpion EVO 3 A1 is a compact submachine gun in 9mm Luger. With a blowback-operated action, the Scorpion can empty its magazine in a hair over 1 1/2 seconds. The EVO’s frame and trigger guard assembly are made of a lightweight polymer with monolithic top rail and accessory rails on sides and bottom. The CZ-USA Scorpion EVO 3 S1 is a 9 mm blowback operated semi-automatic pistol. It’s actually a family of eight models that provide a range of colors and magazines. The Czech military uses a fully automatic version of this gun. S1 means the civilian version.

Color choices are black, olive drab green (OD green), battleship grey and field dark earth (FDE). The magazine choices are two: high capacity 20 round and low capacity 10 round.

CZ’s design ethos revolves around having the fewest parts do the most work, since fewer parts means fewer problems.

The front sight is a post sight. The rear sight is fully adjustable. It has a four different sight selections that one cycles through manually to pick the optimal aperture.

The gun has a very unusual tumblehome design hand guard. It’s not an M-LOK type, but it’s quite interesting. The hand guard’s bottom juts out not as far as the nose of the flash suppressor, but to about the thread.

It rises back at a gentle angle and then just above the barrel slopes back rakishly to the front sight and top rail. There’s a medium length Picatinny accessory rail along the bottom fronted by a black triangular hand stop and another medium length Picatinny rail on either side.

As an aside, all four Picatinny rails are missing their center of each tie forming a canyon of sorts along each rail. This is important since it shows how committed CZ is to shaving any unnecessary weight.

The gun’s cold hammer forged barrel is 7.72” long, which is short and compact. At 16.5”, overall length is also compact though height is 9.4”. Weight is only 5.0 pounds!

The CZ-USA Scorpion ends with both and 18×1 and a 1/2”x28 TPI threaded muzzle that comes standard with a slotted flash suppressor.

The gun features ambidextrous controls (e.g. trigger safety and magazine release) and a swappable charging handle for left-hand or right-hand use. The mag release looks like an inverted trigger that sits on the front of the trigger guard. Just tilt it forward to release the magazine.
